History

Oneida Football Club is the oldest soccer club in the United States. Founded and captained by Gerrit Smith Miller in Boston, Massachusetts in 1862, they were the first organized team to play any kind of soccer in the country. The game played by the club is known as the "Boston game" and was an informal local variant of soccer that combined association and rugby football and predated the codification of rules for American football. The team, made up of students of Boston's elite preparatory schools, played their games on Boston Common from 1862 to 1865, during which time they reportedly never lost a game or even gave up a single point. The current active version of the team was founded in 2011 and initially played in the Casa Soccer League of Boston before later moving to the Bay State Soccer League in 2013 and still play to this day.
