CD Faialense
Cambridge, MA
Miller Field
Founded in 1972, CD Faialense takes its name from the island of Faial in the Azores. The club was established by Azorean immigrants and has long maintained strong ties to the local Portuguese community. A significant number of Azorean immigrants settled in the Cambridge area, particularly East Cambridge, following the 1957 volcanic eruption on Faial and joined an existing Portuguese population in the region. In 1984, CD Faialense purchased its clubhouse on Cambridge Street, which continues to serve as both a social hub and operational base. Faialense competes in the Bay State Soccer League (BSSL) and won back to back Division I titles in 2023 and 2024. The club qualified for the U.S. Open Cup in both 2025 and 2026. In March 2025, Faialense faced Portland Hearts of Pine, a Division III professional side, in the first round. They secured qualification for the 2026 tournament with a 5-2 victory over FC Lonestar in November 2025, marking their second consecutive appearance in the competition proper. On January 27, 2026, Faialense was drawn against Rhode Island FC of the USL Championship, with the match scheduled for March 17, 2026, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
